Rotary Club of Lake Hickory Scholarship Applications Instructions for Guidance Counselors
We are pleased to offer your students applications for the Rotary Club of Lake Hickory Scholarships. As in the past, it is anticipated that the scholarships granted will be for a four-year period. To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must be in the upper fifth (20%) of their graduating class at the time of the application, attend a high school in Catawba County, and demonstrate a financial need. Please emphasize the importance of a thorough financial need explanation to your students. After these three criteria are met, the motto of Rotary International, “Service Above Self,” will be the major basis for selection. “Service Above Self” loosely interpreted means contributions to school, church, community, etc.
Responses to questions on the enclosed application form may be computer generated, typewritten, or handwritten, so long as the handwriting is neat and legible. Applicants may reproduce the form (in same font and format) to facilitate ease in completion by computer.
The number of scholarship awards varies. For the past several years we have awarded $35,000.00 in scholarships to qualified applicants. This year we again intend to continue to award scholarships at this same level of commitment.
Recommendation letters from Guidance Counselors should include comments regarding any financial need that is of particular concern and should be attached to the application form, along with a high school transcript. Please do not send these items separately. They can be properly sealed for privacy.
